Quiet Luxury is taking over our Instagram and Tiktok 'For You' pages and it seems to be trending in stores, but what exactly does it mean? Quiet Luxury or Silent Luxury is a fashion movement which celebrates the power of subtle, sophisticated fashion and how it represents wealth without the need for branding. It continues to precede ‘trendier’ pieces by investing into minimalistic pieces which will continue to prove timeless in your wardrobe year in, year out. Although it may be trending in 2023, quiet luxury has existed as far back as the Renaissance time period. The wealthy would afford to invest into these classic everyday staples by commissioning craftsmen to make the bespoke pieces for the upper class. Through their ability to afford these unique pieces, the individuals would continue to wear these items as they were specifically designed to last a lifetime. Key signs of quiet luxury include no branding, small embroideries or embellishments and impeccable fabrics.

This year, Quiet Luxury has made its resurgence in the Designer fashion world where individuals are looking to invest in these high quality pieces rather than unavoidable branding on clothing or logos covering handbags. This can be seen through brands such as The Row, Bottega Veneta, Max Mara and Chloe to name a few. Goyard even uses quiet marketing techniques to keep the brand exclusive and heightens its uniqueness. These brands came out with understated collections which were specifically tailored to women and men of high status. Queue people with an eye for luxury asking you ‘Is that The Row?’ from now on.

What designer brands are considered ‘Quiet Luxury’?

Max Mara

Max Mara is known for their coats and their everyday asthetic. When you purchase Max Mara customers know they are investing in pieces that will last for many years to come. It is not labelled with branding although to the eye, individuals who are within the realm of luxury would spot a MaxMara staple a mile away.

Celine

Celine has always been the centre of quiet luxury with the brand logo being simplistic and sleek, with Celine bags only distinguished with the Triomphe clean logo, avoiding unnecessary and over the top branding. Celines previous designer Phoebe Philo was inspired by the Arc De Triomphe in Paris and was known for her skills to create pieces to last a lifetime.

The Row

Founded in 2001 by the iconic twins, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, their mission was to create a label completely centred around the opulence of minimalism. The brand continues to gain popularity through the exclusivity of being able to own an everyday staple from their collections. Minimising the use of patterns and logos, the clothing stays neutral and wearable glamourising the understated look. If we were to pick a brand to be the face of quiet luxury, The Row is that brand!
