Centered in London, the movement was driven by bands like Sex Pistols, The Clash, and The Damned, who expressed anger about unemployment, class inequality, and political frustration through raw sound and confrontational lyrics. Punk quickly became more than just music, it evolved into a cultural and fashion revolution. In London, designer Vivienne Westwood and manager Malcolm McLaren helped shape the punk aesthetic through their shop SEX on King’s Road, introducing ripped clothing, safety pins, leather jackets, tartan, and bold anti-establishment slogans. This distinctive style turned London into the global centre of punk fashion, influencing youth culture, street style, and high fashion for decades to come.
