In 1936, American company Bausch & Lomb created the Ray-Ban brand. In this same year, Ray-Ban worked with US Army Air Corps Colonel John A. Macready, to develop sunglasses for pilots to help guard against glare, and the intense brightness of the blues and whites of the sky. Still manufactured today, the Aviator sunglasses - along with the Wayfarers - are their most recognisable style.
