So, you're struggling to close the door of your wardrobe. The bar in your wardrobe has buckled under the weight of all your winter coats, all occasion dresses, silk shirts and tailored trousers. These, amongst a few others, are sure signs that indicate that it's time to start decluttering your wardrobe. In other words, your wardrobe is full of clothes you can't remember the last time you wore them; you can't find what you need and it's so jam-packed that your clothes get wrinkled.

If all the above sounds familiar then it's time to get decluttering and whip your wardrobe back into shape.

Here are some tried and tested tips on how to effortlessly declutter your wardrobe:

#1: Remember the bigger picture

It's easy to get frazzled halfway through decluttering where it seems that there's no end in sight, just remember the bigger picture. Your aim is to recreate a wardrobe full of clothes that you love, fit perfectly and will wear.

#2: Try things on!

Okay, it may seem like an additional step, but it's an essential one. By trying your clothes, you'll be able to declutter more efficiently, saving yourself time in the future from having o re-do a deep clutter too soon. Plus, you may find some old gems that you've forgotten about.

#3: Evaluate your clothes seasonally

Make it a seasonal routine to have a sweep through your wardrobe and ask yourself the following questions:
  1. Are you holding onto the item for sentimental reasons?
  2. Does it still fit?
  3. Have you worn the garment before?
  4. Is the item still in good condition?
Be strict with yourself if you have limited storage space. Make sure everything you keep is something you'll wear again, something that fits you and something you're not holding onto for the wrong reasons.

#4: Sell or donate your items

Make various piles whilst decluttering. One pile for items that have been worn to death. These items can be dropped off at your closest textile recycling point to be reworked into new garments. Make another pile for items that are still in good condition and donate these to your charity of choice. And then make a third pile for items that are in good condition and have a potentially good resale value - items that are designer or luxury pieces.
